WikiFamilies Social Network Building

Frequently Asked Questions - WikiFamilies

Does Wikifamilies charge for use?

Wikifamilies doesn't charge for basic services. For advanced services such as mass storage, encryption, bunkering, etc., we charge a nominal monthly fee. But basic services are free.

What IS Wikifamilies, exactly?

Wikifamilies is a social network system designed to allow people to securely store their photos, documents, videos, etc., without the fear of outsiders viewing them. You can feel totally safe and secure knowing that your documents, your history, and your personl information belongs to you and not us. You are in total control over who sees your information and files.

Additionally, Wikifamilies offers so much more than today's traditional social network sites. Wikifamilies' special video recording, timelines, and other patented features make it a much more intriguing and interesting place to securely interact with your family.

Is this like Facebook?

Some concepts are similar, but Wikifamilies is a far more secure environment. Wikifamilies protects your data with a much higher level of sophisticated encryption and storage. Additionally, we offer more features and never mine your data to sell to advertisers. Your data is your data.

Are you related to Wikipedia?

No, this is a common mistake. The prefix "wiki" simply implies a collaborative effort where all approved members of a family add useful information to the family's history.

Is WF a public company?

It is, indeed. Wikifamilies is traded on the NASDAQ at WFAM.

Why should I use this?

Those who want to securely store files, pictures, videos, etc. without worrying about other people getting their information or viewing their data should seriously consider Wikifamilies as a better, and more secure alternative. Wikifamilies also provides a much more safe environment for children to participate in your family history.

Is Wikifamilies secure?

Wikifamilies was designed from inception to be a secure and private repository for customer’s data and not publicly exposed ala a "Facebook" approach to data. From its inception there was never any plans to expose customer data to public access, nor make the data available for data mining. It is the customer’s data thus the customer owns it and controls it. This is accomplished at several layers.

  • The system runs on Microsoft’s Windows Server 2008 R2 Enterprise Edition with all the built-in security enabled that Microsoft builds into their server products.
  • ii. The customer data is only accessible via the Internet through authorized and authenticated web service calls (with one exception we will get to).
    • Every single web service call (except the initial login) to the Wikifamilies platform requires an authentication token that is generated for that specific user and that specific login session. When a user logs out then that token is destroyed and no longer valid. This token is parsed and validated on every web service call and upon any associated validation failure the particular user can be locked out of the system for a determined time or usage.
  • The stored data can be encrypted (at the customer’s discretion) in a pattern of simple encryption to a pattern of (with today’s technology) virtually unbreakable encryption. The core basis for the encryption is provided by Microsoft’s own cryptographic provider technology and enhanced by Wikifamilies proprietary patterns.
    • The encryption patterns can use a simple password (minimum of 16 characters and strong format) all the way up to proprietary pattern usage of PKI encryption rendering the data virtually unbreakable given the technology available in the next foreseeable century.
  • The data can be stored (at the customer’s discretion) in a physically secured biometric access bunker in Switzerland, covered by Swiss confidentiality laws

The only exception to security is if a customer requests internet access to that data via an URL. The URL is crafted as to be highly undiscoverable but since the URL does expose the data to public access then the associated data is technically not as secure as access via a Wikifamilies enabled application for the duration of that URL (once again determined by the customer from 1 hour to 36 hours).

c. So, with the question in mind "Is Wikifamilies secure?", the answer would have to be a minimal yes to a qualified unbreakable if desired by the customer.

Can I start my own family network?

The answer is a qualified yes. There is nothing in Wikifamilies to create a family network similar to a VPN (virtual private network). The design of Wikifamilies however, is such that it will allow you to create a social network that is limited to the people that are invited into it, such as family members, work mates, social club members, etc. In that view then you can create your own "family" network.

What kind of things can I store on Wikifamilies?

Any digital document, such as photos, videos, word processing documents, spreadsheets, etc. can be stored into Wikifamilies. If a person has a physical item that can be scanned then the scanned image can be placed up into WF just as easily. /

How does WF benefit me?

Wikifamilies, being a private and (if required) secure collaborative repository, opens up a myriad of possibilities.

  • A person can upload their personal photos and share them with their family, friends, etc. secure in the knowledge that the images will never be mined nor openly accessible over the web without the owner’s consent.
  • A person might have precious digital resources that they want to preserve and pass onto future generations. With Wikifamilies patented digital time capsules they can do just that – store the documents for a specified future release date or event.
  • A person might have precious legal documents that must survive natural or man-made disasters. By placing such documents in Wikifamilies bunkered storage then the persistent survival of these documents is guaranteed.
  • A person might have digital resources that they want to make “public” but only to a predefined set of people. With Wikifamilies ability to create your own personal and private network, they can do just that. Make the documents available to all in the network or even restrict further to selected groups in their own network.
Why would I store files here? There are plenty of other free services out there.

Any document stored up to Wikifamilies storage is private, secured, and not minable by any party. Unlike most social networks, Wikifamilies is designed from the scratch to be private and un-minable.

Who would use this?

Any person, group, corporation, etc. that wants to store documents in a private, secure repository is a prime customer for the Wikifamilies Platform.

Is Wikifamilies just another "upload" site?

No. Since Wikifamilies is a public company and under FINRA regulation users utilize paid services to upload their data, documents, etc. Being a paid service requires the user to identify themselves under KYC (aka know your client) OCED (www.oecd.org) practices so that Wikifamilies complies with the appropriate laws of the user's country.

What does Wikifamilies do if they or the appropriate authorities suspect illegal activity?

Since Wikifamilies runs under KYC (know your client) OCED (www.oecd.org) practices and if Wikifamilies suspects illegal activity (e.g. storing of child pornography, pirated software, terrorist related activities, etc.) then Wikifamilies retains the right to notify the country of origin and to remove or shut down the relevant account. Additionally, Wikifamilies retains the right to hand the questionable material over to those authorities. If Wikifamilies is notified by the appropriate authorities that activity such as above is occurring then Wikifamilies will cooperate with said authorities to the full extent of the law. Wikifamilies wishes to provide users with a private and secure repository for their data and has no intent to participate, and/or sanction illegal activities of any kind and thus strives to maintain the relevant laws pertinent to legal authorities.
